Looking for a little paradise? Then we say Agistri! For us Agistri was a paradise to escape the bustle of the city of Athens. We are Sireen Awad, Ilse van der Voorn and Kimberley van Hoof and we are doing a internship for our studies at Let’s meet in Athens all summer. We had the opportunity from this company to discover the island and to share our experiences with you.

Agistri! What is it? Where is it? And what can you do?
Agistri is the smallest inhabited island that belongs to the Saronic Islands. It lies between Aegina, the second largest island of the Saronic group of islands, the Methana peninsula and the Argolic east coast. This beautiful island can be reached from Piraeus in about one hour with the ferry. Upon arrival in the capital Megalochori we decided to rent scooters to discover the island.

Agistri is a small island with many hills. In this way we could visit all the beautiful places of this island in a relaxed way while we had all the time. Our apartment was in Skala, one kilometer from Megalochori. Skala is more popular and also has several hotels, restaurants, snack bars, cafés and clubs that are open day and night. The hotel where we stayed was called Vasilaras hotel Agistri. When we arrived we made a wonderful walk at the harbor and had dinner at Saronis Restaurant. Here we enjoyed delicious fresh fish dishes and also had a view at the beautiful well-known church of Skala, Church of Agioi Anargiroi. Agistri is also known for its hidden beaches, so we decided to look it up on our first day.

The next day we left early in the morning at 10 am to sail on a boat with Interdive. During this trip we were able to snorkel, dive or just swim in beautiful places! There also was a delicious barbecue included on a small island that belongs to Agistri. Unfortunately we could not eat undisturbed because the goats of the island noticed that we were in their territory. After the wonderful adventures on the boat we had dinner in Skala at the Avli Pizzeria Italian Restaurant with the best pizzas on the island. Followed by Happy hour at A Bar and afterparty at taBoo Cocktail Club.

On our last day we got up on our scooter again without knowing where we were going. After a short drive we parked the scooter and continued by foot through Chalikiada Forest. We were amazed by the breathtaking view of Chalikiada Beach. The beach was hidden in a large gorge that can only be reached by foot. After a steep climb we finally arrived at the beach and we could enjoy the azure blue water, the beautiful view and of course the wonderful weather.

After all our adventures this weekend came to an end. And since that day we recommended the little paradise island Agistri to everyone. Not only for its beauty but also because of the hospitality and relaxed atmosphere on the island.
