Athens with children, is it actually fun? As a mother of two young children, I can answer this question with a sound “yes!”. Greeks love children and it shows. Restaurants are almost all child-friendly and well equipped with high chairs. Angry looks when your child messes, plays or makes too much noise are not to be expected here. There are plenty of activities that are interesting for children; archaeological sites, but also child-friendly museums, beautiful parks, playgrounds, theaters and beaches. Traveling with small children? Then consider a good baby carrier, as Athens is not buggy-friendly in all places.

National Gardens

These former Royal Gardens are located in the heart of the city, just next to the Parliament building. You’ll find a small petting zoo, a pond with turtles, a children’s library, open areas for picnics and a fantastic playground.

The Acropolis

When in Athens, a visit to the Acropolis is, of course, a must. Children often find it incredibly fun to climb and clamber among the ruins. There is plenty to see, you can run around and you have a fantastic view of the city.

Near Monastiraki Square is the Museum of Illusions, where reality is constantly being distorted. Enter the inverted room and defy gravity, or shrink to miniature size. Photography is allowed in this museum, so be sure to carry a quality camera to capture the most impressive moments!
